More things to waste time with...

Posted Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at 9:51 AM

So, last week I talked about KDice. I had a few people sign up and play. They enjoyed it and I encourage more people to try it out (www.kdice.com).

This week, I'm going to turn you onto another free internet game called Maplestory. The game is extremely addictive and amazingly free. It's a 2D MMORPG. That stands for massive multiplayer online role playing game. There are tons of users who all start out in a training system that shows you how to use your weapons and how to run around in the world. After finishing training, the game transports you to the real world that is populated with all the other people who are playing the game. Thus, you can walk around and chat with anyone else standing around and then go off to defeat the boss together or just walk around. It's interesting to note that you can trade goods that you have found or if you want, buy in the cash shop. If you are really into the world and some of the friends you meet, you can even buy a marriage ticket and marry someone in the virtual world. The graphics and animations are cutesy and the world reminds you of NES era Mario with touches of anime. Your character is completely customizable and you are able to change his/her look and appearance over time through the purchase of new clothes, haircuts, and more.

It's well worth taking a look at and after all, it's completely free! You never have to buy anything in the game to enjoy it and since its free, there is never a lack of people who are on it to chat with and adventure with.

Another extremely exciting part of the whole Maplestory universe is that it has recently been branched off into a card game, also called Maplestory. The card game is also a whole lot of fun and gives you special codes for the PC game. Each booster pack of cards has at least one code that you can redeem online for a special item. As of now, Game On (208 West 1st) is the only store in McCook that carries these cards.

I am an avid player of both the card game and the PC game and best of all, they are simple enough for the young and old to play and enjoy together!
